The Changing Face of Marriage

In my life the domestic church is very prominent in my life. I have been brought up on Catholic teachings and values my entire life directly and indirectly. Ever since I can remember I have been attending Church with my family every Sunday. Additionally my parents put me in Catholic School from the age of 5 until the age of 18. Also my parents try and set a good example of faith and Catholic values every day. In He's Just Not That Into You the pro of changing marriage is that couples can fully share in love and love the other person instead of the marriage only being about having children. However, marriage is also viewed as unnecessary and pointless which is bad because it is a wonderful thing to enjoin a man and a woman in matrimony.
I am attending college so I am happy to hear I will be less likely to get divorced. At this time in my life I am unsure of whether or not I want to establish a domestic church in my home. I would love to one day get married, but I feel like my faith has to be strengthened before I can teach my children and set a good catholic example for my children. Perhaps as I grow older I will feel more strongly one way or the other.

Dating

If dating is done correctly, it does not have to be a practice for divorce. It can be a learning experience of how to be committed and in a loving relationship. If it is a relationship to use the other person for a prom date or to gain status then it is not a positive thing. However there can be positive relationships. Maybe one likes spending time with other person, maybe they even love them. If romantic relationships are used properly they can be very beneficial whether they end in marriage or not. Not all relationships are going to work out, even friendships end, but that should not mean we do away with them all together. The are an essential part of human life.
The hook up culture however does not help my argument because that is the real "practice for divorce." The idea of instant gratification makes people seem less like people, so how can one learn to form real relationships if they are diminished into something much more superficial. The hook up culture and the idea of no relationships are at too extremes. One calls for too many relationships and the other not enough. With all things if a middle ground is found romantic relationships can be wonderful and beautiful things.

Love Story

This love story has shown me that people can meet in anyway and in the long run it will not affect their relationship. I have never really met anyone who meet their life partner online, but it seems that Bryan and Stef are really happy together and love one another. If its meant to be I guess it just works out even if its different than meeting face to face. The only film I can think of where a couple meets online is You've Got Mail with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. This movie is a little different, but it calls to mind the idea that online dating can eventually lead to happiness (As long as no one is getting "catfished"). Of course sometimes the media paints the idea of online dating in a negative light, but it can be a useful tool in finding a life partner.
A love song that makes me think of Bryan and Stef is "Mirrors" by Justin Timberlake. "It's like you're my mirror, my mirror staring back at me. I couldn't get any bigger with anyone else beside of me. And now it's clear as this promise that we're making two reflections into one. 'Cause it's like you're my mirror, my mirror staring back at me, staring back at me." This lyric makes me think of Bryan and Stef because they are very similar. They are sarastic, witty, like t eat helthy work out, and have other similar interests. In a relationship similarities are important and I think it is why they work so well together.

Some say love. . .

In a relationship, I look for someone with similarities to myself. In Justin Timberlake's Mirrors he describes this sentiment with his lyrics, "It's like you're my mirror. My mirror staring back at me." Additionally, I look for someone who will like me just the way I am and not try to change me. This is expressed in Frank Sinatra's The Way You Look Tonight when he sings, "Don't you ever change. Keep that breathless charm. Won't you please arrange it?" In a relationship, I look for someone to help me be a better person and make sense of things. In the song, I See The Light from the animated movie Tangled the main characters sing about who their lives have changed with the lyrics, " And at last I see the light. And it's like the fog has lifted .And at last I see the light. And it's like the sky is new. And it's warm and real and bright. And the world has somehow shifted." In a relationship, I want someone who will stand by me even when I am cranky or if things are not perfect. In James Taylor's song, You Can Close Your Eyes, he sings, "Well the sun is surely sinking down. But the moon is slowly rising. So this old world must still be spinning 'round. And I still love you." which directly reflects the idea that despite what is going on love is constant. Finally, in a relationship I would like someone who I can always talk to and even after dating for awhile we can still surprise each other and like to spend time togther. In the Script's, For the First Time, the lyrics are, "Sit talking up all night, saying things we haven't for a while a while, yeah. We're smiling but we're close to tears. Even after all these years, we just now got the feeling that we're meeting for the first time." Maybe not feel the butterflies and craziness of new love, but to still be happy and excited to see one another. In terms a soul mate I think the article errs fundamentally in the idea that a soul mate is supposed to be an absolutely perfect and inhuman. A soul mate should be someone who completes you and will stand by you. They can be your friend and that doesn't mean you don't have any other friends. The idea of a soul mate is completely reasonable, but the definition one chooses to use may make it impractical.
